A film and theatre director, Giorgio Ferrara was born in Rome. He started working as an Assistant Director to Luca Ronconi and Luchino Visconti whom he worked with at length. Specifically, he assisted Visconti in the making of Ludwig and in the staging of Harold Pinter’s Old Times.
At theatre he staged several plays by classical and contemporary playwrights as Pirandello, Strindberg, Goldoni Carlo Bernari, Francesca Sanvitale, Enzo Siciliano, Franca Valeri, Cesare Musatti, Natalia Ginzburg and Corrado Augias.
For the big screen, he directed Un cuore semplice based upon a short story by Gustav Flaubert, screenplay by Cesare Zavattini, and winner of a David of Donatello, a Rizzoli Award, a Saint Vincent Award and a Nastro d’argento; The Siege of Venice, screenplay by Enrico Medioli freely inspired by Carlo Goldoni’s “Vedova scaltra”; Tosca and the Women written by Franca Valeri, screenplay by Enrico Medioli.
Since 1987, he’s been living between Rome and Paris with his wife, actress Adriana Asti.
He’s been director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Paris (2003-2007) and President of the Forum des Instituts Cultules étrangers à Paris (2005-2007).
